Kazakhstan greeted the arrival of the Olympic flame with an elaborate state-organized ceremony on Wednesday, with thousands of police put on high alert to prevent any disturbances. Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, was the first stop in the global leg of the 130-day torch relay.
At a tightly guarded ceremony at a high-altitude skating rink south of Almaty, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev kicked off the festivities by making a short symbolic run with the torch in front of tens of thousands of flag-waving spectators.
The route of transfer of Olympic fire "Route of Harmony" will be carried by through 21 city of five continents and 31 Chinese provinces, cities. In Almaty Olympic fire has arrived on April, 2, 2008.
To this event of joint-stock company "Kazpost" has issued the art stamp devoted to relay race of Olympic fire.
